Two clubs thinking "outside the box"

Two clubs within Division 37, taking the cue from Past International President Steve Siemans to "get out of your comfort zone," are embarking on "out-of-the-box" strategies to recruit new members.
The Rancho Bernardo club is conducting a month-long membership drive where new members will receive a 50-percent discount in initial dues and 50 percent off on breakfast meeting meals during the first year.
Meanwhile, the Poway club will be offering "service-only" memberships during the next year for new members who want to participate in service and fundraising projects, but for whom regular meeting attendance is an obstacle. Service-only members will be pay district and international dues and will be required to perform 36 hours of service each year. The program is modeled after one being successfully used by the San Jose noon club.
Are there other new membership ideas out there?

At CLE training for Div. 41; the Saddleback club shared that they are growing because they actually CUT their dues! Since the club Admin account had lots of funds, they are using these funds to supplement the member's dues . . . now at $ 25/year; and they are growing each month.

East Bakersfield Club is trying a "limited membership" which is dues plus 2 meals instead of all meals. So far the only takers may be members who would go "senior" but are looking at limited.

From a marketing standpoint, many practitioners are staying away from discounting their products and services, because it reduces the value of the product in the mind of the customer.

Translate that to Kiwanis. I sat next to a Kiwanian the other day at a TAG training who kept leaning over saying "we need to reduce our dues!"

I believe the opposite.

No, we don't need to reduce our dues, we need to increase our value.

What do members get for their membership fees? Is your club offering enough value to make the member feel the $400-$1,000 per year is more than worth it for them? (Clubs vary in their dues, and in what they offer back for the dues.)

For instance, does your club pay for your members' convention costs so they can go get training? Does your club pay for your members' interclub lunches? Do you pay for your members' installation banquet tickets? My club does. From those items alone, our members get plenty of value for the dues.

And my club grew this year by 12 members net.

What is your club doing to add value to the membership experience?

"Service-only" memberships for only the cost of International and District dues. What about the overhead costs to administrate the Division and Club? Can I "switch" my affiliation to "service-only" by merely completing 36 hours of service work annually and issuing payment to the parent club for just KI and District dues? Am I still entitled to all regular club member rights and privileges?

The way service-only memberships are handled are left up to individual clubs. It is my understanding that so long as KI and District dues are paid on time, neither level will challenge the validity of this type of club membership. Clubs may elect to add club and/or division dues to the annual assessment. Service-only members should, I believe, enjoy
